When I last talked to Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, they (specifically Kurtzman) explained the excitement they felt at getting to work on Cowboys and Aliens because:

It’s like everything we ever loved about Westerns and everything we ever loved about Sci-fi colliding.

That’s right. I just name-dropped Alex Kurtzman. Deal with it. I also had a professor in college named Tom Hanks that I could name drop. Not The Tom Hanks, but he was still pretty cool.

And speaking of pretty cool, according to Variety, it looks like Jon Favreau might be moving swiftly from Iron Man 2 to that self-same project featuring aliens in the Old West battling both Cowboys and Native Americans that’s been circling around town for over a decade.

As you already know, Orci and Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are writing the script for it in between writing sessions for Star Trek 2 and games of table tennis. If Favreau signs on definitely he’ll be re-teaming with Robert Downey Jr. and rolling cameras around the same time they’ll be suiting up for their latest Tony Stark adventure premiering. And then probably shooting Iron Man 3 right afterward.

So get excited.

What do you think?
