I’d like to say that we have been all over The Dark Knight, as we have been watching it very closely over the past few months. Of course, we have by no means been covering it as diligently as my good friend Peter over at /Film (which just turned 2 yrs. old. Happy Birthday, /Film). Late last night Peter turned us on to a little TDK tidbit from IFMagazine involving Russell Crowe.

From IFMagazine:

“Russell’s going to actually be in the new BATMAN movie, which is a big surprise and I want to reveal it to everybody right now,” said Bale, who wouldn’t disclose any more info.

Now I know what you are thinking, “Why the *&%$ does the title of this article say Exclusive?” That is because our Chicago area spy checked in with me this evening as well to give us an update on the 400 cops being cast for a scene being shot this weekend. Here is what they had to tell us:

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!

400 extras this weekend, on Lasalle street, just as I predictd it is a
funeral procession. I will just assume it is for a Commissioner Loeb. There are also going to be extras on the street. They did rehearsals today [Thursday].

Now what they rehearsed I’m told is marching with a 7 gun salute. 3 Shots by each of the 7 guys doign the salute. The twist is, the last round supposedly gets aimed at the stage…

And just to be a tease (if you check my profile picture you’ll know that this is one of the only opportunities I get to tease), I left the last part out about who gets put in front of the gun. It seems like an elaborate scheme, but it also appears that Christopher Nolan’s incarnation of The Joker, played by Heath Ledger, is just the sort of sick sonofabitch who would try and pull off something like that. Our reject in the field has promised to head on down to Lasalle Street this weekend and get us in on a little more of the action, so of course you should stay tuned for more Dark Knight news.

The Dark Knight stars Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Anthony Michael Hall. It hits theaters on July 18, 2008.
