Even George Lucas Didn’t Like Spider-Man 3!

I’m sorry Sony, but I just can’t get off of Sam Raimi’s case on this one. It has been over 3 weeks since I saw “Spider-Man 3″ and I am still in awe at how frustrating and disappointing the entire experience was for me. But who really cares what I have to say anyway, right? It really isn’t much when a critic from the Midwest doesn’t enjoy your film. But when George Lucas doesn’t like your film? That is something altogether more interesting. While talking with Roger Friedman of Fox News at the Time Magazine dinner for the 100 Most Influential People, Lucas said of “Spider-Man 3″:
“It’s silly. It’s a silly movie,” he said. “There just isn’t much there. Once you take it all apart, there’s not much story, is there?”
He also added that “People thought ‘Star Wars’ was silly, too. But it wasn’t.” Always interesting, George Lucas has made my week. He also spoke about the upcoming “Indiana Jones 4,” saying that Sean Connery still has not signed on for the film, despite the fact that his character is in the script. He also dished about Steven Spielberg wanting to keep “Indy 4″ under wraps:
“Steven thinks we can keep the whole thing a secret,” Lucas told me. “I explained to him that it’s impossible nowadays. We can’t live like that.”
Lucas was also probed about the numerous projects rumored in the world of “Star Wars,” admitting that he is readying “Clone Wars,” an animated series for TV that is derived from the original “Star Wars” storyline. Many familiar characters will be returning, but will most likely be voiced by different actors. Seriously? I mean what has Mark Hamill been doing that is so pressing that he couldn’t voice Luke Skywalker? His last big role was a guy named “Cockknocker” who got punched in the junk by Jason Mewes.
I digress. Lucas also talked about making two more live-action “Star Wars” flicks, but “they won’t have members of the Skywalker family as characters. They will be other people of that milieu.” He also added that the two new films will be made for TV and probably be about an hour each. So don’t get your hopes up for any epic Jar-Jar Binks spin-offs any time soon…
