‘Enchanted’ Director Kevin Lima to Remake ‘Mr. Limpet’

The Incredible Mr. Remake!

In the original The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Don Knotts played a character that was completely lame until he turned into a fish and helped out our fighting men during WWII. I can only assume that an updated version would involve a character that turns into a fish, goes to help our fighting forces in Afghanistan, and flips around until suffocating in the desert.

Nevertheless, Kevin Lima (the man who brought us Enchanted and who will forthcomingly bring us Candyland) has signed on to direct a remake of the 1964 flick for Warners.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will, like the original, be a blend of live-action and animation. Which could turn out to be pretty fantastic considering the advancements that have been made in CGI and in mattes. Of course, it would depend completely on which star would carry the project.

So who do you pick? Jim Carrey? Steve Carrell? Sir Ben Kingsley?

I think we all know my vote, but who would you cast?

What do you say, friend-o?

    Nathan Fillion.
  • Oh God!!! I LOVE The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Not sure how I feel about a remake but what-the-hey. I think Ben Kingsley or John Malkovich could pull it off.
  • I think they flirted with the idea of remaking it with Carrey a few years (i.e., probably a decade) ago. I could've sworn they even made a promo poster
  • Not sure what I think about this one - it would be fun perhaps, but seriously, what kind of storyline would it have? And really, I'm tired of seeing character actors like Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell doing this stuff (or God forbid, Eddie Murphey), but I love the idea of John Malkovich or Ben Kingsley. I would like to see somone make it fun, but not stupid. (Not that the original was exactly smart but... I think my point is obvious.)

Nobody can top Don Knotts. Nobody.
