These lists are always fun, in a kind of stupid, obscene way.

But honestly, 300 made it? Shawshank is number 4? Really? Probably because of its mass, crowpleasing appeal (10,000 people voted, in comparison to the 50 critics that voted). But if I'm not mistaken, Shawshank was number 563 in another one of these polls (though I doubt this Empire poll was supposed to be serious list as much as a public stunt).

Nate, of course this list isn't very credible, have you had a look at their list of top 100 characters?? (I mean, Blade, are you kidding me) I don't think the group of people that came up with this list had a systematic way of ranking these movies. They needed to come up catagories to define what makes a movie great. General ones such as plot, acting, dialogue, popularity etc., and then other catagories that are less about specifics inside the movie and more about opinions (cinematography, iconic scenes, one liners, etc.). I may hate math, but it would be the best way to come up with a list because each movie would have an overall score based on that system. Then if there is a tie between several movies, you could create other catagories that would be film specific to those to movies.

Just gonna refer to the rest of the list for a minute: PRETTYYY PISSED CLERKS DIDN'T MAKE THE LIST AT ALLL…..They could've found somewhere for it to go…like,I dunno…number 15? Far out. The Dark Knigt is so overrated. When Heath Legder wasn't in the scene It was a total bore. He was the dark Knight. Should just cross that out and put his name instead. Heath Legder should be number 15 -.-'That movie shouldn't be on the list. Clerks & The Rocky Horror Picture Show should be Oh well My favourite movie,fight club is up there :) so tis all good. & pulp fiction,taxi driver,clockwork orangee…niiicee ;)

There’s a book called “1000 films to see before you die” which is damn comprehensive (compiled by a a dozen or so film-critics). It has a description of every film listed (and explains WHY its worth seeing, which is handy). It doesn’t try to order them either (except by release date), and has a good range of eras and foreign films.
Worth checking out if you havent already.

2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick, 1968)
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (Herzog, 1972)
Apocalypse Now (Coppola, 1979)
Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941)
Lawrence of Arabia (Lean, 1962)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003, Jackson)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928, Dreyer)
Persona (1966, Bergman)
Pulp Fiction (1994, Tarantino)
Vertigo (1958, Hitchcock)

whats controversial about it. at this point in time, _____ amount of people think the dark knight is one the best movies of all time. you don’t like it, don’t read the list. go write your own, and put it in your own magazine.
