‘Bastard’ Eli Roth Continues to Follow Tarantino Around

Posted by Rob Hunter (rob@filmschoolrejects.com) on August 6, 2008

Eli Roth to star in Quentin Tarantino\'s Inglorious BastardsQuentin Tarantino and Eli Roth share at least two things in common. They’re both overrated* directors. And neither man should ever appear in front of the camera.

Variety reports that Roth is “on deck” to join Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards as Sgt. Donnie Donowitz. It’s not clear if “on deck” means Roth has actually been signed to the role or just that he’d be happy to play the baseball bat wielding bastard from Boston. Either way, one need only watch Roth’s extended cameo in Tarantino’s Death Proof to know that the man’s acting abilities are rivaled only by Tarantino’s. And we all know how bad of actor Tarantino is… and we also know he’ll be casting himself as one of the bastards that dies early on, which means Inglorious Bastards now features two vanity acting gigs instead of the usual one.

The same Variety piece also reveals that “Tarantino had planned to meet with Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of SS Col. Hans Landa, only to decide that the role should be played by a German actor.” Uh huh. Tarantino changed his mind on having DiCaprio in his film in favor of a lesser known German actor. That’s what happened…

Even with the one-two shitty acting punch above, I’ll still most likely be enjoying the hell out of this movie sometime in 2010.

*We can argue Tarantino’s value as a director… the man’s made some quality films admittedly, but he’s not now (nor has he ever been) the cinematic revolution some have claimed him to be. (In fact, I’ve always seen him as a much better screenwriter than director… True Romance is still his best film.) And Roth? All of his films have sucked hard.

  • Tarantino is a great director... (Everyone with me now...)

    For me to poop on!
  • I'll say one thing Tarantino gets as much juice in terms of media coverage as anybody in Hollywood when one of his projects are announced, despite the fact that his box-office dosen't back him up. Personally I didn't like his Kill Bill films at all and don't understand what all the commotion was about. Pulp Fiction was terrific but the man on man rape scene was just plain freaky. One has to wonder why he would write that into his script. I really liked Grindhouse although I thought Planet Terror was better than his segment Death Proof. Inglorious sounds like a cool idea but it will not have big main stream appeal despite all its hype!

If Roth is in it, there will be no A-List cast attached.

You're all fucking losers sitting around talking about Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth none of you can make better films than either of them. Get a fucking life does it make you feel "better" or boost your ego to bash filmmakers who you are obviously envious of? I mean this is a site called film school rejects so I already know the answer. You act like you don't like pulp fiction! You can lie to yourselves all you want. That douche bag that said True Romance is his best film is smoking fucking crack! Pulp Fiction is! The only reason you're saying True Romance is Tarantino's best movie is because he didn't direct it, and you don't want to give him credit. He's more talented than you hacks get over it and move on with your pathetic lives already GOD!

    P.S.

    KIll yourselves

I'm pretty sure the majority of people who *write* for this site are *writers* and not filmmakers. So, yeah, Tarantino could make a pretty good movie, considering he is a filmmaker with a lot of experience.

Though if you feel like giving me $20million, I feel like I could make a pretty decent flick.

But just chill baby, we're all cool here. Be cool, honey bunny, be cool.

Tarantino is definitely the most overrated director in America. He has made only a few movies, and most of them are superficial violence-mongering. His 'acting' is godawful..really the worst, as is Roth's. The fact that they are friends is no surprise. Tarantino started off trashy and keeps getting worse.
