Since I am able to see most films for free, I always tell filmmakers and actors that it should be taken as a huge compliment that I paid to see their film after I had already screened it. I think that my trade allows me to have a slight advantage, but one that can be considered bittersweet. I have the fortune of being able to see all of the films that I want, and find out that they are only worth one viewing (or less) before I would willingly pay for the DVD and hate myself later. The bittersweet part though, is that I am able to see all of the great stuff and then put myself further in debt every week.

DVD’s I Bought – Week of November 13th

Shrek The Third – HD-DVD
Shrek The Third is, of course, the third installment of the Shrek series. In a year filled with thirds, Shrek was one of the only films that didn’t sting with disappointment. With a cast to die for and the Dreamworks animation that we have come to love, Shrek The Third is a must buy.
Ocean’s Thirteen – HD-DVD
Another film in a year of threes, Ocean’s Thirteen is the perfect sequel to a series that experienced a hiccup in its second try. With George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon at the helm of an awesome cast, I don’t know how you can go wrong with this film. Refreshing to see that the filmmakers took in account what made the first film so successful.
Pride & Prejudice – HD-DVD
While on my HD-DVD buying spree, I couldn’t resist buying one of my favorite chick-flicks of all time. Not that I like chick-flicks or anything, but Pride & Prejudice is one of nature’s most powerful proven aphrodisiacs. It was back when this came out on DVD, that I got to date number two with Jessica Alba.
Close Encounters of The Third Kind – 30th Anniversary Edition
My first run in with a Blueray exclusive title, but I bought my standard definition DVD and took it like a man. How can you go wrong with this one? My only regret is that I will have to put up with my mortal enemy: Richard Dreyfuss.
DVD’s I Didn’t Buy – Week of November 13th

The Princess Bride – 20th Anniversary Edition
I can honestly say that I have never seen this one, but should I? Who names their child Buttercup? I think I’d rather see a 16th anniversary edition of Curly Sue.
Northern Exposure – The Complete Series
Other than not liking the show, I can attribute my non-purchase to the outrageous waste of clothing exhibited throught this series’ entire DVD run. You know what I’m talking about. Those horribly tacky, puffy pseudo-jacket DVD cases could be spotted from a mile away as a Northern Exposure DVD. It may be good marketing, but there are homeless people now begging for a DVD set to keep them warm at night. But at least you now have a cool messenger bag. Score!
