A wise man once said “It’s not just about seeing Star Wars two weeks before everyone else. You’ve gotta plow through crap like Marie Antoinette and Catwoman as well.” I have the fortune of being able to see all of the films that I want, and find out that they are only worth one viewing (or less) before I would willingly pay for the DVD…and subsequently end up hating myself later. But for every The Whoopee Boys there has to be an Indiana Jones, and because of the great films I am able to put myself further in debt every week.

DVD’s I Bought – Week of December 4th

Superbad
Jonah Hill has been like David, walking into high energy comedies and stealing the show from Goliath’s grasp. Who would have ever thought that in a movie like The 40 Year Old Virgin, most audiences would be talking about the goldfish boots kid? He can’t be stopped, and I’m completely convinced that his next step should be a Rodney Dangerfield biopic. Jonah Hill alone makes this a good movie, but its the addition of Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse that make this film unforgettable.
Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End
Ok, so i know this might be the most confusing movie ever. But with great special effects, great sound and Keira Knightley, how could you go wrong? The best part of going to see this at theaters, was when Keith Richards came on screen and you could hear teenagers yell out stuff like, “No dude, thats Slash from The Beatles.”
Rocky: The Complete Saga
I love the Rocky movies. All of them. Yes, even the one with Mr. T. I was scared when I first heard that they were making a new Rocky, but it came out great. This is definitely a perfect gift for anyone of any age.
Cleveland Browns: NFL Greatest Games
I have to show some love for my Brownies. My hometown team, immortalized on DVD. NFL films always puts out a great product, and you can’t expect any less on this title.
The Last Man on Earth
Now I know that Richard Matheson wanted nothing to do with this adaptation of I Am Legend, but i want to see it because it is considered a classic. Also, Vincent Price is a legend.
New York, New York: 30th Anniversary Edition
This is one of those films that years down the road, critics came to love more than ever. Just like Scorsese’s The King of Comedy, this film received much more acclaim as the years went on. A great new edition to the Scorsese DVD catalog.
DVD’s I Didn’t Buy – Week of December 4th

The Nanny Diaries
Scarlett Johansson should stick to what she does best. The same with Alicia Keys. Laura Linney steals the show as always, but it wasn’t much of a show to steal.
Arctic Tale
Penguins were so last year. Polar Bears are the new black, and in style for this winter. Do we really need another environmental movie? Narrated by Queen Latifah no less?
