DVD Spy: Knocked Up, Air Guitar Nation and a trip to the Grindhouse
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on August 16, 2007

Good morning Rejects of the world. I am here to bring you a fun new feature that should get you all riled up. It is called “The DVD Spy”. It is our new way of bringing you what’s hot and what’s hip when it comes to upcoming DVD releases. We are still working out some of the kinks, so bear with us — but here we go, either way.
Today we are going to take a look at some DVD releases that were just announced, including some of the more anticipated releases of the fall.
Air Guitar Nation - In Stores August 28
One of my absolute favorite movies of 2007 so far, Air Guitar Nation rocks the pants off your DVD collection on August 28. It was the most energized and engaging documentary that I have ever seen; a movie that will ultimately define a generation of wannabe rock stars just livin’ the dream.
It was the single most infectious film of the year and you should own it on DVD. Let C’ Diddy and Bjorn Turoque show you how it is done as they vie for the title of “The best Air Guitarist in the world”! Take a look at the trailer here.

Knocked Up - In Stores September 25, 2007
While Judd Apatow’s hilarious crew of comedic geniuses get set to unleash Superbad upon us in just a few days, we are quietly reminded of another Apatow led flick that busted our guts and blew our minds earlier in the year. Knocked Up stars Seth Rogen as every loser’s hero, the guy who beds and impregnates Katherine Heigl. It was directed by Judd Apatow and also stars Superbad’s Jonah Hill.

Expected DVD Features:
The following bonus features can be found on both the Unrated and Rated DVD:
· Deleted and Extended Scenes.
· Gag Reel.
· Directing the Director: Bennett Miller (Capote) joins the set to “help” co-direct with Judd Apatow.
· Line-O-Rama: See your favorite scenes again, but this time with different jokes!
· Commentary: Feature commentary with writer/director/producer Judd Apatow, executive producer/star Seth Rogen and actor Bill Hader.
· Roller Coaster Documentary: See how the cast handled their fears filming on a rollercoaster!
The following bonus features are exclusive to the Unrated DVD:
· Even More Hilarious Deleted and Extended Scenes.
· Topless Scene-Web Design: A racier scene that gives new meaning to baring it all!
The following bonus features are exclusive to the two-disc special edition:
· Video Diaries: A behind-the-scenes look at Judd Apatow’s journey through the production.
· Finding Ben Stone: This feature takes you through the mock casting process that leads to Seth Rogen.
· Stripper Confidential: Go behind the scenes with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd as they get down and dirty with strippers in Las Vegas.
· Hilarious never-before-seen deleted/extended scenes and gag reels.
· Topless Scene- Restaurant: A version of the restaurant scene that never made it into the film for those who can’t get enough of Seth Rogen.
· Katherine Heigl’s Audition.
· And more!
Grindhouse Presents… - In Stores September/October
Last on my list this time around is the separated release of the Grindhouse double feature from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. As we reported from Comic-Con, the release will be two individual “extended cut” films, with a Special Collector’s Combined Edition probably not far over the horizon.

Take a peek at the expected special features, courtesy of Cinematical:
Death Proof:
- Finding Quentin’s Gals
- The Guys of Death Proof
- Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike
- Introducing Zoe Bell
- Quentin’s Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke
- Double Dare trailer
- International Poster Gallery
Planet Terror:
- Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez
- International trailer
- Deleted Scenes
- Cooking School
- 10-Minute Film School
- The Stunts
- The Make-up and Effects
- The Badass Babes
- The Renegade Guys
- The Costumes
- The Production Design
That’s DVD news for now. Stay tuned for more DVD Spy features coming at you in the future!
