This weeks winner is not only a winner in my book, but it was the winner of the third season of Project Greenlight. The movie was directed by John Gulager and received a very limited theatrical run. It was so limited that it only played at 146 theaters for a single night. Fortunately, it played close enough to me that I was able to be there. I am actually rather shocked that it did, usually these limited releases are nowhere in my vicinity. Since this was in town, I was sure to be in the theater.

Oh yeah, it would probably help if I told you the title. The movie is none other than Feast, a title that refers to the cast, in quite a literal way. There is nothing groundbreaking, or particularly original about Feast, but it is a lot of fun. It is in the vein of Evil Dead and From Dusk till Dawn. It takes a group of strangers, puts them together in a single location, and proceeds to assault them with some nasty beasties outside their locked doors. It is up to the ever shrinking group to defend their location and survive the night.

It is one of those movies that is fun with a group of friends while the Halloween holiday approaches. I look forward to adding it to my collection.

Also coming out this week:

Over the Hedge. This was a pretty decent little adventure. Sure, I am getting a little tired of the computer animals on an adventure, but this one had an infectious energy.

The Break-Up. Moderately funny, but it is a movie that asks a little too much suspension of disbelief, it goes all the way to asking the audience to play dumb.

The Omen. This remake was actually pretty good. Of course, I haven’t yet seen the original. I would have to say that it is worth checking out.

The Complete Omen Collection. Don’t want to settle for the remake? This has them all, the original, the remake, and all the sequels. It is here, hot on the heels of last week’s Exorcist set.

Rest Stop. This is one of those straight to DVD horror movies that has some style, but tries a little too hard. It is definitely worth a rental.

American Dreamz. Never did make it out to see this, but I have heard wildly divergent thoughts on its successes.

Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil. Don’t know anything about this, I just have to ask, did we need this?

Blackwater Valley Exorcism. Just in time for Halloween, and hot on the heels of the Exorcist release, comes this horror film based on a true story.

Reds. The classic Warren Beatty film in a newly remastered release.

Of course, this is not all of the new releases coming out this week, only the ones that jumped out to me. What are checking out?
