All day long, I’ve been geeking out about Kick-Ass. Why? Because I like Matthew Vaughn, everything about the film seemed to be Vaughn at his best, and I have a soft spot for any film with cinematic violence committed by young girls in skirts. D.E.B.S. doesn’t technically count, but I love that one anyway.

For some reason, the film didn’t get scooped up immediately after Comic-Con. I have no idea why this is and choose not to speculate, but I couldn’t be happier that it’s going to be seen by eyes in the United States (like mine). There’s an obvious market for it amongst action adventure, comic-book, and Catholic schoolgirl fans alike.

Feel free to get even more excited by watching the bootleg clip one more or one hundred more times… nevermind, it’s been removed.

The thing looks damned beautiful, and now, Lionsgate has closed a deal that gives them distribution rights. According to Variety, they will release the film next year under their Lionsgate banner – the same banner that released Crank: High Voltage, My Bloody Valentine 3D, and The Cove.

I wouldn’t be surprised  if the release will be limited, which would suck, but I’m breathing a sigh of relief that will get to see it on the big screen after all. At this point Lionsgate is promising a wide release, so we’ll have to wait and see. Most of Europe will avoid the film like the plague as they abhor on-screen violence.  Well, except for France anyway. Given the time it would take to build a campaign and the type of film it is, Lionsgate would probably do well to release it near the beginning of next summer in the States.
