Dolph Lundgren is in position to give a Command Performance later this year with the release of his next film … Command Performance. See what I did there?
Lundgren is again taking over the directors chair on this film about an ex-Marine drummer for a rock band who are performing a sweet gig in Russia when, of course, some form of bad guy, possibly terrorist or criminal, breaks up the party. Yes, this does sound ridiculous.
Ivan Drago here will be doing all the drumming scenes himself, as apparently in the past he was a little bit of a rock star as a kid. Say what you will about Dolph, but at 50 he is better shape than pretty much anyone, he directs his own films, acts in his own films, does his own stunts, plays the drums, was accepted into MIT, won a kickboxing tournament or three, and, well, you get the idea. This is a talented guy.
Previously this powerhouse has acted and directed in both The Mechanik, which was actually quite good, and Missionary Man, which has style, but overall was a toke above average. In a very self-aware quote, Dolph had this to say: “While the quality has been up and down, I think things are going a little better now that I am directing.”
At least the man recognizes it! Give him another shot, see his newer movies. Hey, we let Sylvester up on the big screen TWICE. Let’s put Dolph up there one more time, what do you say fellas?
