The weekend is upon us once again, and with that comes a new batch of movies. Which of course, leads us to this weekend’s open movie review discussion. On tap this week is Quentin Tarantino’s much-anticipated World War II movie Inglourious Basterds. But before we get to your reviews, here are a few helpful resources:

And the film’s official synopsis:

In the first year of the German occupation of France, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as “the basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquis, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own….

And the film’s trailer:

Now that you’ve had a chance to see it — and we hope that you have — we’d like to hear what you thought. So tell us in the comment section below:

I love, love, LOVED the script. I only loved the movie.

It was almost a straight story, and save for some of the sillier Tarantino-isms (stylistic choices that I don't enjoy)... I was surprised that I ended up loving the crap out of it. It was not what the trailer had promised AT ALL, and that is why I enjoyed it :)

I enjoyed it very much, a lot funnier than I expected. I didn't even mind all the subtitles, I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for something fun to watch. Everyone should see this not just Tarantino fans.

I didn't like it too much. It is overlong, the dialogue is both boring and pretentious, and the only redeeming factor for me is that the violence is hilariously entertaining.

    SPOILER AHEAD
I loved the movie but did not like the ending. I understand that this is a QT film and all that but you can't just kill off Hitler man. That's like watching the Titanic miss the iceberg and have Rose and Jack live happily ever after.
  • This was probably my favorite movie of the past five years. Something that I wouldn't not mind watching over and over and over and over again.

Immature, vile and unfunny. That said, this film was a COMPLETE RIP-OFF of a little known classic called "To Be or Not to Be" with Carole Lombard, Jack Benny and Robert Stack. However, Ernst Lubitsch was able to pull off a hilarious WWII comedy without revenge, psychopathic killing sprees and "humor" at torturing prisoners of war. This says tons about Tarintino as a director.
  • this movie was WAY WAY WAY too long, entire parts of the movie were completely worthless and could have been cut out without sacrificing anything. for example, before bear jew beat the guy with a bat they panned the camera back and forth from an empty tunnel for about 2 minutes... for no reason. a conversation in a bar with an SS major was entirely worthless. the opening scene even was about 10x longer than it should have been. in fact, im going to say that the "basterds" for which this movie was named spent less time on screen than everyone else. the movie should have been named Hans Landa, he was the main character of the movie.
