Wasn't too bad. They should just slow the whole thing down a bit for the sequel. It got a bit too fast this time around. Still casting was largely ok - didn't think much of the accelerator suits though. Next time they should keep the comic book look more (ie more khaki less space age stuff) Oh and Dane Cook as Clutch would be great - think of all the one liners he could trade with Scarlet? Other Joes for the sequel? Thomas Haden Church (Wild Bill), Adam Beach (Airborne), Wes Studi (Spirit Iron Knife), Thomas Jane (Recondo or Rock and Roll) and Topher Grace (Flash). And the bad guys Major Blood, the Dreadnoks and Firefly - Bring it on!

I'm so glad most people on this site agreed with me. This is a movie that people were looking forward to hating before even seeing it. I went in expecting and even hoping for a glorified cartoon and that is what I got. The action was crazy and there was decent amount of time spent on character backstory, etc. Anyone expecting a Dark Knight approach to this movie must not have watched the cartoon. The amount of action, gadgets and effects in this movie was pretty incredible. The quality wasn't top tier due to the amount of effects. It would have required an insane budget to render everything perfectly (leave that to Avatar in December). Still, they were respectable. Acting was so-so. Nothing was terrible enough to reduce the "fun factor". I didn't have to resort to mocking it to enjoy myself...I just enjoyed celebrating it's campiness. Bottom line, I was entertained. For the sequel, I would like to see them aspire to "Iron Man" quality. That movie hit the perfect combination of grit, character, humor and high tech action. No need for reimagined art house seriousness please.

There was no fun in this movie. I could list the numer of mistakes but I don't believe that there is enough room in this post to lost them.

Kevin is right, there was a reason they didn't screen this for reviewers. Sloppy ethics, lack of basic principles of combat, not to mentions holes in the science you could drive a truck through. Bad CGI, horrible looking vehicles, terrible costume choices and the bastardized versions of characters made the movie a waste of not only time but money.

Entertaining and fun.

I thought the Paris chase sequence was top-drawer, featuring the best effects of the (and many a) movie. The rest was pretty cheesy, but fun all the same, though I wasn't a fan of the nano-bites-green-mist stuff that ate away at the Eiffel Tower. Looked like something out of a Ghostbusters cartoon. Snake-Eyes was bad-ass. And the flashback to Snake Eyes v Storm Shadow as kids I'd say was one of, if not THE best child fight I've seen.

Seeing as the comparison is being made, Transformers 2's awesome moments were better than the best bits in G.I.Joe. But the worst moments in Transformers 2 were way way more offensively bad than anything G.I.Joe had to offer; it's worst moments were just laughed away (Egypt, really (again)? Just how many Joes are there in The Pitt and why did they all only appear to sweep up after their base was attacked? Who else would make out with your ex after she had tried to kill you and many other people too and essentially been evil for the last 4 years? Joseph Gordon-Levitt?!). I'd rate them roughly the same.

I think the reviewers comparison to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was on the money. There's also an A-Team vibe going on here too - lots of carnage, no blood (save for the cuts in the Snake Eyes v Storm Shadow finalé showdown), so this is pretty safe for your action loving kids.

Also, there's plenty of first rate cleavage. Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols are scorching (aye dads?).

I've never seen a second of the G.I.Joe cartoon. Not sure if it made it to the UK, probably did, but the toys and comics were called Action Force, which I never bothered with - though I did recognise Snake Eyes as being bad ass!

G.I.Joe TROC is NOT better than Transformers ROTF. In reading other people's reviews and descriptions of the movie I guess I let my expectations get the better of me and thus, walked out after the movie feeling disappointed. I even fell asleep for a little bit during the end battle. Snake Eyes looks creepy with a mouth! There was absolutely nothing wrong with his cartoon or comic book flat mask look which appears more real and ninja like anyway. They should have just structured the story more like the G.IJoe cartoon miniseries of the 80's - even those had better plot points and characterization. I wanted to like this movie so much... instead, it's just ok.

Nitpicking from a fanboy of the 80's comic book aside, I thouroughly enjoyed it. A hundred-fold better than Transformers 1 or 2. Yo Joe, sign me up for the next tour of duty!

Is this not what a summer blockbuster type is suppose to be? Explosions, good looking men and women, a couple of interesting twists and surprises and some funny moments? Still, if this movie has a broad appeal it is by accident. This was a movie made for fans of the GI JOE: A.R.A.H. cartoon. I'm not sure if I imagined it, but there were a few moments when I am positive the Alvin Silvestri score quote the incidental music from the cartoon (I am thinking of the part where the truck comes out of a cave in daylight -- the bugle/trumpet piece). With the exception of the lack of the Village People costumes, everyone is as they should be. Scarlett was sexy, red headed and deadly (with the crossbow!), Snake Eyes not only kicked ass, but still communicated with his hands (the pre-raid on the underwater base), Duke was allowed to shine as well as Ripcord, Heavy Duty (cool British black guy with cool British black guy accent!) had his moments. Hell, even Breaker had some great little comic relief moments. And do you think you will ever see another a movie where Dennis Quaid gets to say, "Deploy the Sharks! (Is this revenge for Jaws 3-D?)" The real improvement came with our villains: Storm Shadow, Destro, The Doctor (you will call me "Commander!") and the Baroness were given their own motivations and relationships instead of just being stock James Bond rip off characters. I personally think it is Brilliant that Destro was the main antagonist but not the one we should have been really afraid of. As a kid who sat in the backyard in his youth playing with his toys I can't tell you what kind of silly stupid grin I had sitting in this movie. Was GI Joe perfect? No. Was it fun? Yes! I can see how someone who doesn't like summer movies who hate on this, but gee...this is what summer is all about! I had a great time with my buddy, we never felt insulted, never felt mislead. I am a cheap s.o.b. but I really felt like I got $15 worth the movie for a $9.50 ticket. GO JOE! On another note, I think the only thing that could have made this film a little funnier is if after the credits, Tatum Channing shows up in a park to tell some kids who are trying cigarettes for the first time why they shouldn't smoke them. Seriously, I would have loved to see some take on the old GI Joe PSA's. But again, minor problems aside, this may be the BEST action movie of the summer (not the best FILM of the summer: Moon, 500 Days of..., Hangover). Better than Transformers, better that Wolverine, better than Harry Potter (did anyone actually have fun during that film?). Knowing really is half the battle...

I saw GI Joe this weekend and loved it. It mixed action with humor and I probably enjoyed Marlon Wayans the best simply because he does comedic humor so well. I didn't know anything about the movie going in and so I wasn't spoiled by any possible disappointment. I grew up watching the cartoon as a kid and watching this movie was like being 8 years old again, except with better action sequences. I got a personal kick out of who ends up as cobra commander. The actor is one of my favorites and he was appropriately creepy. I had to laugh at the various cameos in the film, Brendan Frasure's short bit was funny. Snake Eyes and Stormshadow were played well and their fight sequences were amazing. There is some cheese to it, but it fit and gave the movie light hearted moments that made it fun. Overall, I loved it.

I don't think there are fanboys for GI Joe. They're fanmen. I think the average person who remembers GI Joe and really likes it is like 26-30.

But yeah, you're kind of a douche for wanting the movie to fail because the studio didn't show it. I wish they showed it, but only because seeing it between Mon-Thurs lets me write a review, even if its embargoed, and run it Friday, rather than having to rush out, carve some time on the weekend, and review it all in a small time frame.

You guys are both right. I had fun watching the movie, and it reminded me of a live-action Saturday morning cartoon. All that was missing on the guilty pleasure meter was a big bowl of Lucky Charms... and being able to see it in my underwear.

Yeah, I get you Fure, but when other big movies (like TF2 and HP6) had their midnight shows, there were dozens of comments on a page like this. Plus, by this time of day (6:30 p.m. ET), they had midnight numbers out and I haven't seen any. Even though I enjoyed the movie, I might just be hoping it will flop to prove that the idea of not screening for press can potentially hurt it... yeah, that's pretty much where I'm coming from. I'm an asshole that way.

Just came back from seeing it and ... OMG it's insanely awesome. Now I was never one to think this movie was going to suck because I do enjoy the mummy movies so I had faith in Sommers. Not sure if I like it more than TF2 but only time will tell.
