Yeah I see where your coming from but The Dark Knight V Wall-E comment came from a lot of people saying an approximation of the following;

"Wall-E shouldn't be nominated The Dark Knight should instead"

I think both should and if they do THEN it's on between the robot and the caped crusader. And I suppose the stigma is more about ALMOST universal love that some films get that if you don't like your kind of seen as odd for it even though everyone will have one (I smell a list that would cause a looot of debate). An example would be my mother who I advised to see Iron Man and she said it was terrible and as such I kicked her in the face - I jest I merely don't trust her taste in films at all anymore.

You're right, I may be in the minority of those who didn't find Wall-E to be the greatest film ever made. But a Best Picture candidate should have complexity, not a rehashed story that has been passed down the Pixar family tree. And when did being in the minority become a terrible stigma? A lot of people saw Saw V last weekend, I didn't. Is it a terrible stigma to have missed that film? Definitely not.

And yes, The Dark Knight and Wall-E are in competition against each other. Every film that is submitted for Best Picture consideration is in essence competing for the honor. They are two completely different films, yes, but so were The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine when they were both considered for Best Picture.

Stick Wall-E in the Best Animated Picture category please. I liked the film but it pales in comparison to many other previous Pixar films. Don't go Al Pacino and hand them an award thay should have possibly won years ago.

Wall-E, as good as it was, is not Best Picture material. Compared to previous winners, Wall-E falls too short.

I came here to root for Wall-E for Best Picture, as it was easily one of the top 5 movies of
the summer, if not top 10 for the year - but now that I re-consider, what wowed me was
the technical aspects, rather than the story: the cinematography and "realisticness" of the
CGI. I agree with Harold - that overall, Ratatouille was a better film than Wall-E. Perhaps
the Academy will realize this, and give it to Wall-E as an "honorary" Oscar (like how they
did with Alan Arkin the year he won for Little Miss Sunshine) - but most likely not. I'll be
more than satisfied if Wall-E wins the Best Visual Effects, along with the Best Animated
Feature, Oscar.

As for the Dark Knight, I think it deserves anything but Best Picture - absolutely a nod,
but at this point, the picture I think deserves Best Picture is Synecdoche, NY.

I have no problem with a quality animated film getting a best picture nod. If it's good, it's good. Cartoons aren't just for kiddies anymore. Wall-E was a wonderful film. Ratatouille was best picture worthy too, IMO.

Besides, i would much rather see a movie that was released to a wide audience that people saw and enjoyed get nominated than some "prestige" film a studio releases in Nov/December in limited release before the deadline just to get a nomination.

I think the big test will be if Dark Knight gets a best picture nomination. If DK gets the nod, then perhaps in the future more mainstream films the people like will be considered too.
