Chances are, you’re heading out to your local digital or IMAX theater location today. Are you going there to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? Probably not. While that is a possibility, it is even more likely that you’re heading out to catch a glimpse at 16-minutes of Avatar, the upcoming sci-fi actioner from Terminator director James Cameron. And if you are going, then you are probably a major fan — because anyone who was willing to sit through Monday’s ‘get your tickets’ debacle is certainly dedicated to the cause.

Among those dedicated is our own Kevin Carr, who will be chiming in later with his take on the footage. I however, am most interested in hearing what our readers have to say about James Cameron’s latest. You’ve seen the trailer (which I’ve embedded below for your convenience), and now that you’ve seen 16-minutes in glorious 3D, it is time to tell us what you think.

I think District 9 had much, MUCH better graphics on every level. Avatar is too dedicated to everything being overly tense. I'm all for robots and cool military stuff, but the blue dudes in this film are ridicules looking.

Are you sure you saw the preview in IMAX 3D. District 9's graphics are good but definitely not better than the graphics in AVATAR.

My Avatar Day Experience

The room was quiet as I woke up, the air dry and the girl kissing my cheek said Goodbye as she left for work. I was left there to toss lightly in a fitful sleep until waking up a few hours early. I took a shower and met her for lunch, eating a fantastic torta and then heading home for a nap.

After that nap, we went to see Inglorious Basterds.

If you cannot appreciate the historical benchmark presented to us as consumers of mass entertainment by James Cameron's 16 minutes of 'Avatar', then the barbarians are truly at the gate. If you are under 30 maybe 40, you have been jaded by a lifetime of video games and CGI and sfx. Cameron and his partners are going to make a ton of money (The 1st $3 billion movie?) because people will revisit this movie over and over simply because of 3D which as of now cannot be duplicated with present day home theaters. (Have any spare money? Invest in Panasonic and any other stock connected with this film.) If you have not seen 'The Terminator', 'Aliens', 'The Abyss', 'Terminator 2' or 'Titanic' (and to a lesser extent 'True Lies') then you must not be aware of Cameron's ability to tell a story as well as blow things up. I look forward to going and taking my grandchildren and other friends to see this movie.

You perfectly summed it up, Mrkwst22.

I went with a buddy who got tickets (with no crashing troubles whatsoever...how 'bout that?). I think that that combination of the film's long gestation period, coupled with a decade-in-the-making period of cinematic fanboy cynicism (starting, IMHO, with the letdown of Phantom Menace), that many 20-to-30 year old film enthusiasts have exceedingly high -- and misplaced -- expectations of what makes a film great, and don't even realize it.

While I was aware what I was watching wasn't real, the advances made in the 3D rendering, facial features, and all-around visual detail kept forcing me into a marvelous suspension of disbelief. Though brief, I truly became engaged with the Sully avatar and the female warrior in the presentation.

Mr. Cameron, you've got another mega-hit on your hands...one that I'll see repeatedly (and in 3D, of course.)

i went to se it and the trailer does not do it justice this movie is simply awesome and beautiful
