Oh man, this is terrible news
like, horrible.

Actually I take that back, I haven't seen Eagle Eye, but from what all I have read, it's terrible. Ignoring that for a second, it took two decades to get the version Ridley Scott wanted out (which I will agree with everyone and say is the best version). Now, I enjoy Scott as a director, and so forth, and respect him for what he's done (you know, here and there). He's had a long career and blah blah blah, I don't think this Eagle Eye guy is up to snuff.

The other part of this for me, is that sci fi in the 80s was so bleak. The stories were bleak, the sets were bleak, the colours were bleak, etc. Scifi now is not, or at least, most of it is not. You get these shiny, looked at how amazing my computer is movies, and they don't have the same dystopia feeling that movies like Alien, Bladerunner, etc, had in the 80s. That, I think, is my biggest issue. The 'feel' of the movie would be wrong, and I wouldn't be able to get into it, or enjoy it, even if it was well written. Much like the Star Wars prequels (I'm not saying they were well written, just shiny and so far from the original three), I think even if this turns out to be a good movie, it won't stand up against the original, and I'll take a steaming shit on top of the dvd on a mountain while throwing a fax machine off of it. Or something.

As for Dtrain's comment about them being in the same universe, I think you mean Bladerunner was based on a Philip K Dick story (do androids dream of electric sleep), and Soldier was sort of, kinda, referencing maybe sort of elements of several short Philip K Dick stories, then sure. Not really important though, since they're about different stories...

“I have a lot of respect for it and can’t even fathom a sequel or anything even set in the same universe.”
Trivia Drop: you guys remember the steaming pile of garbage that was Soldier starring Kurt Russell? Yep. Same universe. Seriously. Look it up.

I would have to see a storyline on the movie to even give my opinion. There is not need for a sequal, but another movie in the same universe is possible.

A sequel seems pointless. But if Brett Ratner were to direct a Platinum Dunes remake of "Blade Runner," starring Paris Hilton as Pris, I would be all over it. That would fucking rock.

Considering the critical pounding Eagle Eye has recieved, I doubt these guys will ever get a shot at writing a Blade Runner 2.

It does sound like "wishful thinking" on their part.

Besides, if they ever geenlight a Blade Runner sequel, we'd have to read countless stories about crazy ass Sean Young demanding to be in the move.

Nobody needs that.

Yet another movie that has no need of a remake. On top of that, could we please find jobs for these two writers that involves an original idea (Eagle Eye doesn't count since it is in my mind an unofficial and illogical remake of WarGames)? Remaking Clash of the Titans could be fun because of the enhanced effects we have today, but half of the charm came from those stop motion animations. As for their new take on The Warriors, campy movies from the 70's should stay in the 70's.

P.S. To Big K: I would totally buy a DVD of "The Revenge of Atticus". Do you think they could get Jason Statham?
