I agree! Max Records should definitely get a nomination, that was an amazing performance. The oscars should recognize him like they did with the girl, Saoirse Ronan, from Atonement.

Watchmen. Interesting choice. I agree about Rockwell in Moon, and it's a shame. I do hold out hope for a nomination, though I don't think he has a chance at the win.

I thought Molina was damn near perfect in that film. He needs to be in more wide-distro stuff. He does stage as well, I think. This might be one of the things that keeps him off the radar most years. I thought he was amazing as Diego Rivera in Frida.

Do you think Avatar will get a Best Picture nod?

Up In The Air was good. I think it will get some nominations, but I don’t know if it will get awards. It’s a good movie, and a great take on our current economic climate, but I’m not sure about its ability to win anything.

Nine will, no doubt, get some love — but I don’t know what exactly for.

We’ll see about Avatar, and I hope The Hurt Locker and Precious win the day. :)

I’d have to say Waltz deserves supporting actor, hands down. IB also at least deserves a best film nod. QT a best director nod as well. I think Sam Rockwell deserves a nomination at the very least for Moon, and I’m active in the online effort to make that happen (sign the petition here if you’re interested: http://tinyurl.com/ylmfrlt) I also think Sharlto deserves a look for his work. It remains to be seen with the movies yet to come out. Avatar looks interesting but will it win the Academy over? I’m sure Up In The Air will be good as well as The Lovely Bones.

Mary and Max easily deserves Best Animated Feature (and I’m a big Pixar fan, so that’s saying something). If big furry suits count give the costume design to Where the Wild Things Are. Personally I’d give Best Pic to either WTWTA or 500 Days of Summer, but it’s not going to happen. Hopefully 500 Days of Summer can at least get a Best Original Screenplay nom (and I’d love a win). Best Director will be whoever wins Best Picture, as per usual, and it will likely be some overhyped thing that I’ll hate or at least have grown ultra-weary of come Oscar time.

I think it is so early to Predict Oscar specially for CGI ( Visual Effects ) … and I am not sure why Are you doing this right now and not after 2 months … specially when both biggest movies will be released :
Roland Emmerich’s (2012) and James Cameron’s (Avatar)

Just from the trailers you can guess that both movies will be fighting for the Oscar for bet CGI !

I don’t hate (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) … But again Michael Bay made the same mistake again as in Transformers 1 … that the action were so fast that the normal eyes can’t follow … and it is good way to run from details like moving the parts of the body of the transformers through each other when it transform into a car .

Transformers doesn’t win against The Golden Compass !!! now you think it will win against the Trailers of : 2012 or Avatar !!!????? ;-)

I guess it depends how the film turns out, but i think there could be a few nominations for ‘The Road’. Viggo and Kodi Smit-McPhee will garner a lot of praise i’m sure, as well as Robert Duvall who is also generating a lot of buzz for ‘Get Low’.

I agree on the Sam Rockwell front, i don’t think a nomination is out of the question but it seems unlikely unfortunately. One film in partucular that I’m pleased is getting some attention is ‘Big Fan’, for which i think Patton Oswalt deserves a nomination also. I also thought John Malkovich’s performance in ‘Disgrace’ was very good, although i haven’t seen a lot of press for the film.

As great as their performances were I don’t think many people expected Richard Jenkins or Melissa Leo to get nominated last year so i’m quietly confident they’ll be a few “surprises” come nomination time.
