Is Jude Law Right for Dr. Watson?

A few days back, Variety reported that Jude Law was in final negotiations to join the production of Guy Ritchie’s next film, Sherlock Holmes. Law is reportedly going to take the role of Dr. Watson and play sidekick to Robert Downey Jr.’s Holmes.

The film, which has been described as showing the swashbuckling, adventurous side of Holmes, is set to begin production early next month in London. From where I am sitting, Law is a solid choice for Watson, especially considering the type of film that it appears Guy Ritchie is attempting to make. He appears to want Holmes to be a more exciting, intense character, while still keeping him rooted in Arthur Conan Doyle’s contemplative, reserved hero. Similar to casting Robert Downey Jr. in the lead, I think this fits. Then again, that’s one man’s opinion.

What do you think of Jude Law as Watson?
