Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie Might Fit into ‘Gucci’

Once he’s done cutting up Sherwood Forrest with Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott is likely going to move on to Gucci, a look at the turbulent times in the 70′s and 80′s of the family-owned fashion label. And according to a Variety report today, he may be taking Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie with him.
The story follows the life of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, who ultimately won the bloody power struggle to run the family’s fashion business, a power struggle that almost crippled the business to the point of near bankruptcy in the early 90′s. Maurizio was gunned outside his Milan apartment just before a fashion show that was to start the resurgence of the brand.
Jolie is in line to play Patrizia Reggiano, Maurizio’s ex-wife who was sentenced to 29 years in jail for plotting the murder, despite claims that she was blackmailed into going along with it. Scott has approached DiCaprio to play Maurizio, but he has not yet been attached to the project.
The word is that with Scott finishing post-production on Robin Hood at the moment and Jolie likely tied up in the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarsk-directed The Tourist, that this film could go into production early next year. It’s an interesting choice for Scott, as I could see him playing up the crime thriller aspect of this true life story. Jolie and DiCaprio would be a solid cast, as well, for obvious reasons. I would be interested to see this come to fruition.
