Despair at Images from Tales of the Black Freighter
Movie Marketing By Robin Ruinsky on February 3, 2009 | Be the First To CommentJoBlo has snagged four pictures from Mike Smith’s Tales of the Black Freighter DVD cover which will be released March 10th – just four days after Watchman.
Gerard Butler voices the shark slaying, gull eating castaway who is going out of his mind trying to get home in the comic book within a comic book. He’s desperate to get home to warn his family about the Black Freighter, a pirate ship that attacks his ship, killing all the men aboard save him, who they maroon on an island.
And, of course, the full composite DVD cover image:
While it would have been great to see this integrated into Watchmen, I can’t complain about it being released at the same time the film is in theaters. At least it’s being given a film treatment.
Of course it’s also great marketing and an ingenious way to make money. Buy the stand alone Tales of the Black Freighter on DVD. Then buy Watchmen on DVD which will include Tales of the Black Freighter and finally buy the special edition director’s cut with Tales of the Black Freighter included in the body of the film Watchmen.
Anyone out there looking forward to seeing Tales of the Black Freighter?
