Johnny DeppOne thing is for certain: the master of surrealism is a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. Al Pacino and Peter O’Toole are setting their sights on different Dali pics, and The New Zealand Herald is reporting that Johnny Depp is throwing his melting hat into the ring.

According to the rag from down under, Depp is thrilled to play Salvador Dali, he just doesn’t have a script yet. Despite that small drawback, he’s open to whoever wants to write it, as long as it’s good.

A source (we know how credible that sounds) claims that, “He’s open to working with anyone – from housewives to pensioners – if the script is right.”

Although, I’m betting that your average housewife won’t be able to get her screenplay into Mr. Depp’s hands. Or Mr. Depp’s agent’s hands. Or Mr. Depp’s gardener’s hands. So the safe money is that someone like John August will phone Tim Burton within the week, meet up at Urth for a quick brain storm and then buy the mushrooms necessary to hallucinate a workable script.

At least that’s what I hope happens.

The way things are shaping up, the major studios may soon be asking the public who wins in a Dali-off – Pacino, O’Toole, or Depp?
