Johnny Depp as John Dillinger

Our friends at Collider.com have a nice spread of photos from the new Michael Mann (The Last of the Mohicans) film Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger.

If Depp wasn’t enough of a draw there’s more outstanding talent involved including Christian Bale, David Wenham, Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Channing Tatum, Stephen Lang, Lili Taylor, Stephen Graham Leelee Sobieski and Billy Crudup.

Christian Bale sheds the bat suit but still fights crime as FBI agent Melvin Purvis. His job is to put Dillinger (Depp), Pretty Boy Floyd (Tatum) and Baby Face Nelson (Graham), out of business. Their business of course is violent crime in the Depression days of the 1930′s.

Billy Crudup as J. Edgar Hoover stuck out as an odd casting choice. Crudup wouldn’t be the first actor to come to mind when casting the bulldog faced Hoover. It should be interesting to see what Crudup does with the role.

Depp is said to have signed thousands of autographs during the location shoot which included stints in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. And little wood guns were given out as wrap presents.

Universal is said to be very happy with the film and has scheduled it to open July 1, 2009. Just click the image at the top to see the full assortment of images.
