Del Toro’s ‘Che’ Gets a Fancy Teaser Poster

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on August 26, 2008

The first international teaser poster for director Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming two-part biopic Che, which stars Benicio Del Toro as Ernesto “Che” Guevara, has made its way onto the web. Thus far, no real domestic marketing push has begun for the film(s), which is ambiguously scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2008. The $70 million dollar project, which was split into two films, Guerrilla and The Argentine, made its debut to relatively positive reviews at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Have a look at the poster for yourself below.

  • Wow. I love Soderbergh, but "relatively positive reviews" doesn't sound exactly promising.
  • $70 million for a two part biopic about a left-wing terrorist isn't too promising either. Hope the producers don't expect to recoup their investment anytime soon.
  • Glad you could encapsulate an icon and the geopolitical situation that gave rise to his ideology in only three words, Hunter. Very deft of you. Any more nuanced and you'd just plaster his face on a t-shirt.
  • Waaa Waaa Waaa, Cole. Go celebrate Marxism elsewhere, like on Capitol Hill. If Che was ever deserving of any sort of positive recognition (I say No, he was not) any credibility his followers had has long been lost by the masses of naive and misguided youth wearing the aforementioned t-shirts.
  • One of these people knows the history of the United States in Cuba and one of them doesn't. Can you, dear reader, guess which?
