Dark Knight: More of Heath Ledger’s Psychotic Joker

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 30, 2007

There seems to be a slue of recent coverage from major media outlets about The Dark Knight, including a very menacing cover shot on Empire magazine’s January 2008 issue that was revealed online earlier this week. The folks over at Wizard magazine also got to spend some time with Batman’s new foe, and it yielded the picture below. The beautiful thing about it is that all of these new looks at The Joker are beginning to convince me that Director Christopher Nolan may have been on to something with Heath Ledger. Of course, mannerisms will come into play — but if this Joker is half as menacing and evil as he looks in a magazine, then we are in for a treat.

Up for Discussion: What do you think of Heath Ledger’s Joker so far? Is he going to be gloriously dark and psychotic or is he going to cheese it up?

  • That's a pretty wicked look. I have a friend who was on set for a scene or two and said that Ledger nails it, so I'll take his word for it.

The main aspect of Heath Ledger's joker that makes him so frightening, is his powerful ability to delve deep into his adversary's minds, dissect their darkest fears and turn it against them to make them self destruct, That is the sheer brilliance of his character. He created chaos and mass fear by disrupting the established order and sparking anarchy and chaos. "Evil geniuses" are a reality in life and often very destructive which renders his character very frightening in reality even though it"s fictional..
