Cyclops to Appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine and Cyclops

Scott Summers, he of the truly deadly looks, is to appear in the forthcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine. According to X-Men Films, a young Australian actor named Tim Pocock (gotta say, really unfortunately surname, I’m never sure whether I’ll read it as Peacock, or something not quite as wholesome) has been cast as Cyclops, with confirmation from his agents, Meissner Management, though Fox has remained quiet.

While it’s great to see some new blood in a role that has been cursed with the emotion of a wooden plank up til now (James Marsden never really did much with the character in the X-Men series, but then again was he given that much to work with?), one must wonder what on earth is Cyclops doing in an origin story about Wolverine, especially a young Cyclops at that. Before Wolverine arrived at Professor Xavier’s academy and enlisted in the X-Men, their paths were completely separate (based on my limited knowledge of their back story from the excellent 90’s cartoon), so where do the men behind the curtain propose to fit Summers in?

Sound Off: Do you think Cyclops has a place in the Wolverine Origins movie?

Wild Bluff Media says:

No place in Wolverine Origins. Sounds more like someone wants to cash in on the mania of cross-overs in these comic book movies. Forcing it like this wouldn’t be cool

This movie is rapidly starting to get Forrest Gump Syndrome. Beak, Gambit, now young Cyke? The only possible way I can see this working would be if Logan ran into Chris Summers and his 11 year old son Scott on a military base somewhere. If Cyke’s already a mutant, it will not work with the continuity the franchise has already established.
