Cup of T-Bag for Wolverine

Posted by Michelle Graham (michelle@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 19, 2007

In this tense environment of striking and negotiations, there are few new movies ready to move forward in production, but the clunkily named X-Men Origins: Wolverine is apparently one of them. This X-Men spin off focuses on the feral Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s yellow spandex clad (alas, only in the comics) character from the trilogy and is already populated with several cast names, both rumoured and confirmed. On the confirmed side, we have Hugh Jackman, surprise surprise, while on the rumoured side we have people like Brian Cox, who would be reprising his role as the evil William Stryker from X2, and wee Kodi Smit-McPhee who, according to Empire Online, will play the mutant in his younger days.

Well make way Brian Cox, because there’s a new name to add to the top of the rumoured list. According to Cinema Blend, Robert Knepper (aka T-Bag in “Prison Break”) has been mentioned in connection to Wolverine, though there is no mention of who he might play. Speculation abounds on this, but we’ll just have to wait and see to find out. After all, he’s far too small to play Sabretooth, and what other interesting characters are there? Cinema Blend suggests Toad, but with his lacklustre appearance in X-Men, would they really bother bringing him back, and if they did, why not put Ray Park back together (he’ll always be the sliced in half Darth Maul to me) and pop him in the role? At least it’d be consistent.
