Despite the new name for Kevin Smith’s buddy cop flick lending itself to not-so-creative puns if the film does poorly, the buzz around it has been – you know – the exact same size buzz for every other Kevin Smith film.

So, pretty big.

Audiences will see for the first time the director taking on someone else’s script, and he’s got Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, and Seann William Scott batting for him.

Buzz and speculation aside, here’s the first real look at the film through the eyes of its marketing team:

So…yeah. A lot of Tracy Morgan saying Tracy Morgan things, and Bruce Willis growling out lines. A fantastic introduction there in the trailer, but nothing that really gives an idea of the story. Granted that it’s tough to make jokes land outside the context of the movie (in the short span of a trailer), most of this stuff is pretty average.

The trailer is as tepid as room-temperature tap water, but I’m still holding out hope that Cop Out will deliver some pants-wettingly good comedy.

Fingers crossed.

What do you think, sucka?

  • Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, and Kevin Smith...what a weird yet interesting combination. But then again so was John Travolta, Tim Allen, William H. Macy and Martin Lawrence from "Wild Hogs."

As for the trailer...Kevin Smith has nothing to do with them (there is a certain group within the studio that makes them)...and if you follow him on Twitter, besides reading about the many things he does to (and on) his wife's ass, as well as who wins certain hockey games, you'll know he says he didn't make the trailer (and his subtext reveals that he didn't really like it), and promises the movie is more in-line with his "normal" fare.
  • I like Kevin Smith since Clerks first came out in 94. All of the movies are cool, not so much Chasing Amy, Good acting from Adams and Ben, Jason Lee (Banky) was great. Jersey Girl definitely his worse no matter how much you care for it.
  • Tracy Morgan, just like in 30 Rock, is the weak spot here.

I'm not sure about this movie. The trailer is really watered down as you can tell, but I'm sure the movie itself will be better. I think the dude from American Pie needs to get a new agent because man...this screams The Rundown, but with two people instead one giantmuscular dude.

Disappointing trailer, looks like your typical Hollywood BS. It's bad news when you take what Kevin Smith does worst (direct) and subtract what he does best (write).

I think film geeks will immediately write this off because it didn't get to keep it's original title.

Great, it's Sean William Scott. Guess that means we get to hear that god damn bird call another 50 times?

The dude is such a tool.
  • Trailer isn't very good - didn't even laugh once - but hopefully the film itself will be much better.

Why is Bruce WIllis in this Movie??
