Comic-Con Slate Begins to Fill Up

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on July 14, 2007

comic_con_logo_sm.gifAs you may have heard, we will be rocking you some awesome coverage of this year’s Comic-Con direct from sunny San Diego, California. The Con kicks off on Wednesday July 25 and runs through Sunday the 29th. Myself, Associate Editor Brian Gibson and resident Fat Guy Kevin Carr will all be traveling to SoCal to bring you some of the most badass Comic-Con coverage on all of the interwebs. With that said, let’s do some news…

Our good friend Alex over at FirstShowing.net has the full schedule broken down by day, at least as far as the film events are concerned (and if you are reading this site, that is where you want to be.) We are all very excited about the Paramount panel on the first morning, especially getting a chance to look at both Beowulf and Iron Man. Don’t underestimate the Warner Brothers panel on the second day though, as rumors are already beginning to swirl about the possibility of a teaser for The Dark Knight being shown (Source: SuperHeroHype). I am very doubtful that it will come to fruition, as the studio is denying it like crazy, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to be showing up early for that part of the con. You never can be too careful about these things; Studios are tricky, after all.

By far the most exciting part of the Con for yours truly isn’t going to be run by a studio, coincidentally. One of the most exciting things about Comic-Con is the chance to get in with other online movie geeks and talk shop. One particularly delicious opportunity will occur on Sunday afternoon (for those of us who are still hanging around). See below:

1:00-2:30 Masters of the Web—Hosted by Tom DeSanto (Transformers, X-Men), the biggest genre and movie websites are coming together to talk about how new media has affected movie making today, what it takes to run a popular site and much more in this panel discussion and Q&A session. Participating panelists include Robert Sanchez (IESB.net); Garth Franklin (Darkhorizons.com); Berge Garabedian (Joblo.com); Patrick Lee (Scifi.com); Ed Douglas (Comingsoon.net/Superherohype.com); Brad Miska (Bloody-Disgusting.com); Steven Weintraub (Collider.com); Devin Faraci (CHUD.com); Drew McWeeney (Aintitcool.com); Paul Christensen (Movieweb.com); Kellvin Chavez (Latinoreview.com); and Eric Moro (IGN.com). Room 6A

Some of us will be going to hear insight from respected leaders in our field. Some of us, such as Devin from CHUD.com are going to “deliver a suplex to at least one of these pansies.” Either way, if a fight breaks out I think we will fair pretty well. Rejects don’t back down. That’s not how we roll.

Overall, Comic-Con is shaping up to be one jam-packed weekend of Geekdom, everything that we could possibly hope for. And for you, our faithful readers, we are hard at work lining up interviews, panels and roundtables to bring you some of the best Comic-Con coverage anywhere! Just make sure you keep coming back to our Official Comic-Con Homepage from now until the end of the Con to get all of our inside scoops, celebrity interviews and online film geek drama!
