“We’re trying to tell a story on a massive scale, a true blockbuster scale – the biggest I’ve ever been involved with. We tried to make a very large-scale film with The Dark Knight and with this one we wanted to push that even further.”

The words of director Christopher Nolan, as chronicled in a new preview piece on the LA Times’ Hero Complex blog. For his next trick, Nolan set out to deliver a movie on an enormous scale. And so far, the enigmatic trailer and mysterious time and space-bending premise of Inception have more than ignited the fires of interest here in the blogosphere.

In describing the origin of the film, Nolan cites a long love affair with the work of Ian Fleming, and the globe-trotting nature of James Bond. “I grew up watching James Bond films,” he explains. “And loving those and watching spy movies with their globetrotting sensibility…. We get to do that here, not just geographically but also in time and dimensions of reality as well. We get to make a movie that’s expansive, I suppose you’d say, in four dimensions.”

As Hero Complex’s Geoff Boucher points out, Nolan’s next seems to take notes not only from Fleming, but from the likes of the Wachowski Brothers and Sigmund Freud as well. It is The Matrix, Videodrome and Never Say Never Again. But bigger in scale than The Dark Knight, set in four dimensions.

Sounds huge. I can’t wait.

It doesn't really matter to me about the actor in the movie (as long as they know how to act), if the story is good and makes sense :)

It would be nice to see familiar faces though ... I don't mind Leo.

    Wait. Is it In-Sep-Shun....or In-Cep-Ci-Own?

Basically, is it in English or Spanish?

wht i find funny about all the animosity toward Leo is that it is completely unwarranted and in my opinion something that spawned from Titanic and that itself is a shame because that movie gets too much flak. The question i pose now is does anyone question the directing ability or talent of Scorsese who by all accounts has picked a new De Niro in Leo (Gangs, Departed, Aviator, Shutter Island, RIse of Theo if it ever gets going). Now does anyone think that Scorese is an incompetent director when it comes to choosing great actors............ no so obviously the haters should prob just keep their mouths shut considering the greatest living director has a muse that he obviously thinks is tops in the game. your thoughts

It's Nolan, and I trust his instincts. I doubted him on Ledger and we saw how that turned out. I think this will be good. The premise sounds interesting, and I know Nolan dots his I's and crosses his T's.

I never understood the seemingly unwarranted animosity towards DiCaprio.

You mean his over acting and the fact that he is not as great an actor as his PR makes him out to be?
  • chrisbudke
Sorry, I'm not a huge follower of his PR. I just watch his movies. And he has made movies that I've liked and some that I haven't.
  • Aleric
Every movie he is in and the type of roles he takes are part of his PR. So yes you do follow his PR.
