eccleston01.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter is, er, reporting, that British actor Chris Eccleston is stepping into the role of Destro, the villainous MARS arms dealer in the upcoming Stephen Sommers directed GI Joe. Irishman David Murray previously occupied the role but was forced to withdraw due to an issue arising from his visa.

Eccleston is probably most recognizable to American audiences from the well received 28 Days Later where he played a vile Army Officer attempting to secure humanities future through forced copulation with the ladies.

While he’s a bit on the small side muscle wise, he definitely has the acting chops to pull off Destro. GI Joe will begin filming this Spring for a Summer 2009 release.
