Charlie Wilson’s War Movie Trailer
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on October 11, 2007

Universal today released the official trailer for the upcoming flick Charlie Wilson’s War starring Tom Hanks. The film, directed by Mike Nichols (Closer, The Graduate, The Birdcage) is based on the book Charlie Wilson’s War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History by George Crile that followed Texas congressman Charlie Wilson in his attempts to thwart Soviet Communism in Afghanistan. The film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julia Roberts, Emily Blunt and Amy Adams.
As you can see, the film definitely has some potential. An extremely solid cast combined with a sure-handed director is always a good thing. I have been a of Mike Nichols ever since Closer. The only part of this one that bothers me is Julia Roberts as a rich Southern Belle. I just don’t know about that. Then again, the always extraordinary Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams should make up for the increasingly bland Roberts.
Charlie Wilson’s War is due out on Christmas Day, December 25, 2007.

Trailer looks damn good… I loved ‘Closer’ but haven’t really been a huge fan of much of Nichol’s other work. This looks to be pretty entertaining though, and Hoffman’s appearance clinched it for me. (And as a side, ‘The Guardian’ wasn’t directed by Nichols, it was Andrew Davis of ‘The Fugitive’ fame.)

Whoa… You would be right, wouldn’t you. Where did that come from?
Guess I should make a change, eh?
