Certified Fake: The Cloverfield Monster

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on September 16, 2007

Using their classic mentality of “post first, ask questions later”, the folks at IESB have posted a picture of what could or could not have been the monster from J.J. Abrams’ very mysterious “Cloverfield” (aka 1-18-08) project. But the mystique of the big slothy bastard didn’t last very long, as it turned out to be completely fake. Yet, fake as it may be, the image below, which turns out to be fan art made by an artist named Doug Williams (his blog), is pretty darn cool. There is so much speculation surrounding the “Cloverfield” monster that I am beginning to wonder if the movie is really being made or if it is all just a really twisted marketing campaign. Wouldn’t that be some shit? If on January 18, 2008 J.J. Abrams came out and said that there was no movie, or for that matter no monster. I know, it is just to odd to fathom, but it could happen.

Enough babble, take a look at the fan art below (click to enlarge):

The fake was first picked up by my good friend Peter over at /Film via a posting on the message board at JJAbrams.net. Good catch, Pete.
