Cassavetes ‘Kingdom’ Might Be About Bestiality

Excuse me. Of course I meant to say ‘zoophilia’ in the headline – there’s a big difference, and it’s a difference that demands respect. Either way, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t look it up. Just rest assured knowing you’re a better person than I am. Although, that’s not that hard.
Your first clue to that effect is that I’m joking around about bestiality when the film is actually clearly about the life cycle, the universal connection between human beings, and the need for conservation. Well-known actor and lesser-known director Nick Cassavetes (unless you worship The Notebook, which, Executive-Caeser-in-Chief Neil Miller does) will be helming Peaceable Kingdom for Newline according to Variety. The film will focus as a biopic-type look at Dame Daphne Sheldrick – a hero in Africa who has done major work in the realm of halting elephant extinction.
Producer Cathy Shulman seemed ecstatic about the project:
I’m crazy passionate about this one. This film is all about the cycle of life and rebuilding families, both animal and human. It’s also about the intertwining of people and animals.”
Am I seriously the only one who thinks ‘bestiality’ when I hear ‘the intertwining of people and animals?’ Oh, I am? Awesome.
All kidding aside, it sounds like an incredibly worthwhile project that will probably have a decent, heartfelt message. Newline is hoping to start rolling in the fall in Kenya – which probably has some killer tax incentives for film makers.
What do you think? Did you realize it wasn’t spelled “beastiality?” Me neither.
