The cyberspace definition is only the recent popular meaning of Avatar. Generally an avatar is a vessel to occupy, which then represents you as a proxy. A god manifesting physically would need a physical avatar, for example. The Avatars in the film serve as proxy bodies for the humans who control them through remote telepathy.

He shot that T2 battle scene in like 3 days on a soundstage and improvised pretty much everything it sounded like. Imagine, all the time, all the tech, and all the money that has been put into this movie. I cannot wait to see this epic mother of all battles. December is sooooooo far away.....

I have to admit that the more I read about Avatar, the more deflated my expectations become. Just saw some images from the game at E3 as well as the concept art and it just simply doesnt have the wow factor I was hoping for...

Kind of diappointed. Cameron called for the world of CG ot be "cheaper and more democratized" yet with the name "Avatar" he could not be more wrong in making a jungle combat film. Was hoping for something cyberspacey, as everyone knows an Avatar is an online projection of your personality. Well, maybe the action won't suck. I guess I love Cameron too much - He was dead to me after he said no sci-fi films following Titanic.
