Back before Sundance, I bet Neil that Buried wouldn’t get a distribution deal. I was wrong. What I owed him as a result of losing that bet stays between him, me, and the specialty website we created to display it.
As we all know, Lionsgate picked up the film, and here we are just a few months later with a full-fledged teaser trailer on our hands that’s chilling in its simplicity:
As a teaser, it’s incredibly effective because showing less in this case is perfect for making an audience feel cramped even inside a big theater. The challenge will be for the full trailer (and for the film) to deliver something beyond this instinctual moment and create an indelible character and reason to watch him for two hours. The early word out of Sundance was good, but we’ll have to wait to see if the gimmick gets built upon.
Meanwhile, I’m waiting for an SNL Digital Short paying tribute.
One, cut a hole in the box. Two, put Ryan Reynolds in the box…
Every single holiday, a Ryan Reynolds in a box?
