Already working on a “God of War” film, Rush Hour director Brett Ratner is dreaming of making gamers’ dreams come true with a “Guitar Hero” film.
MTV Multiplayer caught up with the X-Men and Rush Hour director to discuss his Best Director nomination he earned for the Miley Cyrus video “7 Things”, and discussed why he keeps putting Guitar Hero in all his projects. He had Cyrus smash Guitar Hero instruments in “7 Things, put the game in a Mariah Carey video, and turned “American Idol” onto the best-selling video game.
“I love ‘Guitar Hero’ and think it’s a part of pop culture. I would love to do a ‘Guitar Hero’ movie, if ActiVision would let me. I’m trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie. So that would be cool to do a ‘Guitar Hero’ movie.”
Not make a bad movie, huh? Did Ratner take time to watch his own Rush Hour 3 film? Eh, who am I to judge, I know I didn’t. Ratner went on to give his vision of a “Guitar Hero” storyline. “It could be a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the “Guitar Hero” competition. One of these dreams [come-true] concepts.”
A small-town kid who dreams of being a rock star…hmm, where have I seen that before? Oh yeah, the shit-tacular film Rock Star! Someone might want to warn Ratner that he has no chance of topping the 1989 video-game classic The Wizard, which Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis is in. Maybe he can flip the film on its head and have Chris Tucker yell “You don’t ever touch a black man’s controller!”
Are you interested in a “Guitar Hero” film? What is your favorite video game film?
