BREAKING: New Dark Knight Spoilers

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on August 8, 2007

Holy sneaky spoilers, Batman! My good friend Peter over at /Film just dropped me a line on some of his very exclusive spoilers for THE DARK KNIGHT. As you may know, I was all wrapped up in this one prior to falling head over heals with Jon Favreau’s IRON MAN at Comic-Con a few weeks back. But it is time to get back on the KNIGHT train and bring you the news you want about a movie that you still know only a little about. Take a look at what Peter dug up after the jump. But be warned, there are potentially Major SPOILERS awaiting you on the other side of this post…

From /Film:

  • When The Joker (Heath Ledger) kidnaps Rachael Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) from a big party, Dawes is forced to reveal Batman’s true identity, Bruce Wayne. Later, however, The Joker becomes convinced that Dawes lied to him when he encounters both Bruce Wayne and Batman in the same room together simultaneously. I have no idea how Bruce pulls this off. I would assume that if a Batman impostor exists, Joker would likely be in on that joke. This causes Joker to think that Bruce Wayne is NOT Batman and that Rachel, in fact, lied to him… His accusation of her deception doesn’t end well.
  • Apparently there is an impostor posing as Batman who is running around Gotham City. The cops believe he is the real Batman and that he is on their side. How this plays into the big story is unknown. I know that this may seem very unlikely and improbable, but my source has not been wrong yet.

Here are my thoughts on this one: For one, the thought of a Batman imposter being used in the flick, while improbable, makes for an interesting dynamic. I would be interested to see how they make that work. Maybe Chris Nolan can integrate a little bit of what he did with Bale in THE PRESTIGE at the end. Hopefully that doesn’t spoil anything for you either… The only problem may be that side stories like this have a tendency to clutter up a plot. For a perfect example of a cluttered plot gone wrong, see SPIDER-MAN 3. Or don’t see it, if you value your time.

Back to THE DARK KNIGHT though. While these details seem to be a little “out there” I do know that they were obtained from a very reliable source. Take it with a grain of salt or a spoonful of sugar, but it is at least fun to talk about.
