Coraline was a rotten story, just dull and nasty at the same time. Good animation does not justify a miserable story like Coraline.

Coraline was overrated junk. The stop motion was hyper, the story was a dismal mess and unbelievably boring. It was like watching a long, tedious video game. How a movie can be hyper and boring at the same time was the only amazing thing about it.

There are most certainly NOT 10 better films than Up from this year, it would just look stupid to not give Up a Best Picture nomination. Especially after the Wall-E snub last year.

I think that you need to give “The Secret of Kells” a second look. It has already won some major festival awards.

It does cause a conundrum with UP going for Best Picture. If it wins, so be it, but then it would also have to win Best Animated Feature, too. That seems redundant, but it not winning in that category would seem disingenuous. There's just no win there.

Which is unfortunate for the years when an Animated film is THE BEST of the year. Whenever that happens. A by-product of making sure they are recognized.

I actually can think of ten better films this year, but that's beside the point… which is that Up is animated. There's a whole category just for animated films. Period.
That said, they already muck things up with the Best Foreign film category which once in a rare while bleeds into the Best Film category so I guess this would be no different.
Although again, there are definitely ten live action films better than Up.

I don't agree with the idea of Up getting a nomination for Best Picture… not due to the movie's quality, but due to the fact that a category already exists specifically for animated movies. If Up gets this Best Pic nod then the animated category becomes useless as Up should win Best Animated by default… if it's the only animated film nominated for Best Pic then it's obviously the Best Animated right?

While I haven't seen all of the films noted in the article, the one's I did see may have had great animation but, still couldn't hold a candle to the animated masterpiece that is Up. Up's wins not only for it's superior animation but, because of it's heart and emotion. This frickin' cartoon moved me.
