Blasphemy: R2-D2 Cameo in Star Trek Confirmed

With the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow, plenty of sites around the web have been reviewing the various version and keeping a close eye on the screen for anything out of the ordinary. And as you can see above, the folks at Gizmodo seem to have found where the George Lucas-owned effects house Industrial Light & Magic has inserted the famous Star Wars droid R2-D2 into the new Trek. This is something that ILM has tried to do on many non-Star Wars films, including allegedly throwing him into the background of Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as well. As any Trekker would tell you, this does constitute blasphemy of the highest order.

Click the image above to see that high resolution version over at Gizmodo. Anyone catch any other little Easter Eggs in Trek yet?

You should also be aware that the Millennium Falcon was put into a battle with the Borg in Star Trek First Contact. A brief few shots show her zipping around fighting the zombie robots along with all the New Star Trek Ships ILM helped create for that movie.
