Beverly Hills Cop Rated “R” for Ratner
Posted by Robert Fure (robert@filmschoolrejects.com) on July 2, 2008

Previously, it had been reported that Brett Ratner’s upcoming fourth installment to the Beverly Hills Cop might aim for a more kid friendly rating, that is, the much sought after and equally maligned PG-13. However, this can apparently be written off as a misunderstanding by MTVNews. Ratner himself recently set things straight saying:
“Dont believe everything you read on the internet. Believe me, this is going to be a hard core ‘R’ Beverly Hills Cop. I start shooting next year”
So there we have it. Axel Foley won’t be playing the role of a human Donkey cracking wise to a big green caricature. He will, instead, apparently remain the same foul mouthed pistol packing asshole of a cop, who we know and love.
While this is, of course, good news that the character will be able to be as mature as he has been in the past, we are still faced with the negative that Brett Ratner is directing. Zing!

Well, we previously had a completely bad Beverly Hills Cop flick: a PG-13 rated sequel directed by Ratner.
We now have a half-bad movie, though: an R-rated movie directed by Ratner.
Yes, I appreciate the fact that it’s gonna be “hard core R-rated”, but even though the Rush Hour movies are somehow entertaining and I liked X-Men 3 more than the average viewer/critic, I just don’t imagine the guy directing a movie of this sort.
Hope he lives up to the expectations. :)

I hope they get Judge Reinhold back as Billy, if not in a main role, a cameo or something, this might make up for some of the crap Eddie Murphy as churned out over the last few years.
