No way Sony can bump Blu-Ray prices up. DVD still outsells any HD format by something like 5 to 1, if not more. Expect Blu-Ray prices to go down for several reasons:
1. To deal the knock out blow to HD-DVD
2. Production of the discs gets streamlined
3. Win over people to HD over DVD.

i disagree, i think the "civil war" as you put it has caused prices to not go down, since distributors have had to keep extra stock for a format that may or may not sell, causing them to over produce to compensate for that extra stock. By switching over to a single format they cut their overall production and we, as consumers, should see prices go down.

Do we as consumers really want a winner? This "civil war" of the HD formats have kept the
prices down. We want competition, not a monopoly. Now that Blu-Ray is going to
practically own the HD world, they are going to have the power to bump up the prices as
much as they want. Everyone has already laid down the big bucks for the full HD capable
televisions, we are pretty much at their mercy. We want our HD, and now they know that.
