Bateman may make some ‘Porno’

bateman.jpgFans of both Kevin Smith and Jason Bateman may have some good reason to rejoice today. No, Smith is not on to direct season 4 of Arrested Development. I know he has been doing a lot of TV lately (CW’s Reaper, which is going to rock and Heroes: Origins), but this has nothing to do with that. Quint over at AICN is reporting today that he knows who will play Zack in Smith’s upcoming comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno: the afore mentioned Bateman.

Smith told us back in July that he is putting off his politically charged horror flick Red State to make Zack and Miri first, a script he had written for Rosario Dawson and another actor. Then last week it was revealed (via SilentBobSpeaks.com) that Ms. Dawson wasn’t going to be able to make the party. Why not? As our own Jennifer del Rosario reported today, Dawson will be starring alongside Shia Labeouf in Eagle Eye, which will be directed by Disturbia’s D.J. Caruso.

So while Rosario is out, the prospect of adding the sensational Bateman to the project seems to be a good fit. He was money on Arrested Development and he completely stole the show earlier this year in Smokin’ Aces. It is about time that he gets a good comedic lead role and Kevin Smith is as good a director as any to give him that shot.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet. The guys at News Askew have debunked the rumor, saying “As far as we know, this is just not true. Not only is Bateman not currently signed to play Zack, he’s not signed to play any roles at all in the film.” But we’ll be keeping an eye out at Silent Bob Speaks for Kevin to weigh in with an official word, so stay tuned.
