In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Caped Crusader himself Christian Bale spoke about the possibility of a third Batman flick. Word on the street is that Bale has already been signed for a third Bat-flick as part of his initial contract, but director and wunderchild Christopher Nolan has not. Bale seems to be ready and willing to move forward into the third film, so long as Nolan is at the helm. Take a look at what the man had to say:

Christian Bale: No, no, no, no, no. [Smiling] Part 3 is what I’d consider it, yeah, I don’t say part 6. Batman begins — that was the beginning there, with all due respect to the others. We are re-creating this. You know, obviously the decision is out of my hands. I would, knowing the Dark Knight story, I would like very much to complete a trilogy. And I think that knowing the story of The Dark Knight, it leaves you anticipating something that really can get very, very interesting for a third. Now, the question would be: Is Chris going to be doing it? Because to me I find it tricky to imagine working on it without it being a collaboration with Chris.
Now I can’t imagine a non-Bale Batman at this point, or at least, I don’t want to. And I would love for Nolan to stay behind the camera. With the first film being so well received and the second looking to be the biggest film of the Summer, I find it hard to believe that Warner wouldn’t pony up whatever amount is necessary to secure the essential players for the third flick.
I think the real question is Batman 4. Both Bale and Nolan will be free to move on at that point, and then the cost of securing both, and convincing both, to come back gets a bit more difficult. But sleep soundly, my friends, as a third Batman film will almost assuredly come our way from this dynamic duo.
