In the world of nearly non-news today comes a brand new production photo of James Cameron on the set of his latest film, the sci-fi epic Avatar. In the image, which can be seen above courtesy of Empire, Cameron is seen holding a large gun that is attached to some sort of gunship.

The photo doesn’t give us any additional insight about the movie, but it does show us that there’s at least one really kick-ass machine gun. So, it’s got that going for it.

For more on film, check out our Avatar Comic-Con Footage Breakdown in which we’ve culled the responses from around the web to the footage that was shown last weekend at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Avatar is in theaters December 18, 2009.
