Audrey Tautou Sips Some Hot ‘Coco Chanel’

Let’s face it. We love Audrey Tautou. We love pictures of Audrey in the forthcoming Coco avant Chanel as well.

Tautou jumped onto most American moviegoers’ radars in Amelie and she’s changed opinions everywhere on the French, which were admittedly ignorant opinions to begin with. But I digress. Tautou’s latest effort is a biopic of Coco Chanel, based on Edmonde Charles-Roux’s biography about the only fashion designer to make TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century. I heard the Olsen Twins barely missed the cut with their Target clothing line. A damn shame really.

There’s no indication of when the U.S. release date is. Until then enjoy Tautou in all her wide-brimmed beauty, courtesy of TheBadandUgly.

  • audrey is adorable. i would love to be with her. my favorite foreign actress would have to be Jeanne Moreau from Jules and JIm.
  • Ok here's a thing, Shirley McLaine did the biopic of Coco Chanel (if I'm correct), the tV movie. As a matter of fact which I've seen, which was, wasn't that good. If they play their cards right, have an actual French Actress to do this film & with all of the French scenery and french oh la la characters then it would work.
  • Yes, she's great. You can't discount Catherine Denueve. Despite her age she still can bring it, and her body of work is amazing. And of course Julie Delpy; simply stunning. And the magnificent Marion Cotillard.

  • I love, love, love Audrey, too, she's just so adorable. You can't hate her no matter what.

    I'll see this movie just because she's in it.
  • Tautou is my favorite foreign actress and she's stunningly fantastic in everything she does... the problem is aside from Amelie and the recent Priceless she's had horrible taste (luck?) in roles. Hopefully this biopic is deserving of both her enormous talent and petite frame.

    Tautou, Moreau, and Deneuve are all examples of the European acceptance of women throughout all their years, and they're all still working. In America, after 30 a woman is seen by men as basically useless; therefore, few great roles come up for women in US films. I see French cinema becoming much more influential in the 21st century, due in part of the sheer genius of Marion Cotillard, who is forging a strong international career. But think about the movies being made in France (I'VE LOVED YOU SO LONG, LA VIE EN ROSE, CHANEL, e.g.); they believe humans are interesting and can be heroic. In America, only superhuman and alien beings can be heroic: Superman, Ironman, Batman (all men, you notice) and action features only vary in how much dynamite is used to blow stuff up and crash cars. I believe as the century goes on, people will be much more comfortable with stories about human beings, not alien beings, and will want to have those stories told by both men and women of all ages. European film-makers are proud when they make a really artistic movie; Americans are only interested in the first box-office weekend and how much money they make. When a Canet can make both an artful and fast-moving film like TELL NO ONE (2005, just arrived in the US in 2008), it shows what excitement can be created by word-of-mouth in the US. Americans WANT good stories told artistically about real situations. That translates into money (see MAMA MIA); but money can NEVER be the primary motivation to make art. So look to the Europeans, especially the French, to take leadership of international cinema.

    Carla Bruni is an example. She is the First Lady of France, but she's a model, actress and musician, even posing nude at some points. The French are so accepting of her. Here in America, she would never be embraced with open arms if she became the First Lady.
