First Lars von Trier, now Darren Aronofsky. Interesting directors making interesting movies about the evil nature of women. Yes, that’s right: women are evil. I don’t believe it, but I suppose someone out there does. The Hollywood Reporter is talking about a new project for Aronofsky today that sounds like nothing more than an exploration of such a belief, a movie about a woman who becomes unhinged and absolutely wrecks the worlds of her husband and his illegitimate child. What’s not evil about that.

THR describes the movie, titled Serena, as follows: “Set in the rugged mountains of 1929 North Carolina, “Serena” follows a man named George Pemberton and his new bride, Serena, as they create a timber empire. Serena not only takes to the woods, but she also pushes her husband to commit more and more ruthless acts. When she learns she cannot bear a child, Serena sets out to murder the son her husband fathered illegitimately.”

Angelina Jolie would play the lovely Serena, whom we can only assume is misunderstood. The project will be written by Chris Kyle, who is responsible for films such as The Weight of Water and K19: The Widowmaker for director Kathryn Bigelow. Currently everyone is in talks and the project is seeking financing, which is no surprise considering Aronofsky’s involvement. Add this to his list of 35 projects in development, most of which will never see the light of day.

In other news, Angelina Jolie recently dropped out of Wanted 2, but sources inside Universal say that Mark Millar and company are looking to move forward with it even without her attached. It makes sense, considering how the first film ended. Am I the only one who remembers that?
