Alec Baldwin Takes Part in My Sister’s Keeper

.. oh, and he’ll be in Madagascar 2 as well. While the latter doesn’t exactly thrill me, what with the original Madagascar being a dreadful exercise in entertainment through primary colours*, the former is very promising. Alec Baldwin is comic gold, as anyone who has ever seen an episode of 30 Rock is aware. However, in My Sister’s Keeper, odds are he’ll be exercising his dramatic side in keeping with Nick Cassavetes’ creation. My Sister’s Keeper is the big screen adaptation of a Jodi Picoult novel of the same name, and is the story of a young girl (Elle Fanning) who sues her parents for emancipation when she discovers that she was conceived only as a genetic match in the hopes that she could keep her elder sister (Dakota Fanning, they’re keeping it in the family) alive.

Cameron Diaz plays the mother of the girls, a retired attorney who chooses to represent herself in the court case, while according to Coming Soon.net, the newly cast Baldwin will play the younger daughter’s attorney. Hopefully we’ll get to see some of Baldwin’s comic personality and dry wit come out, but even without it’s still lining up to be a smash hit. After all, what movie can withstand the tears of a single Fanning, let alone the pair of them!

*There was one saving grace, in the form of the excellent penguins, who have their own tv show coming out soon, as seen here. I’d rather a movie of their own, but hey, the tv execs know what they’re doing, they must be right.
