Like you Rob, I hate 2001 (I promise this is not hate speech though!). Not even kidding here and all cinematic shapes, advances, music, red LEDs, monkey shenanigans aside, I would rather see something like Sunshine atop that list. Blade Runner or Aliens anyone? Maybe even Event Horizon or (gulp) Virus be Number 1 than 2001: Cinematic Asphyxiation.

And where is the Foreign Film Category? Even if I have major beefs with the idea of anything outside Hollywood being automatically dubbed foreign, without such a category soooooo many films become overlooked.

And what about a Godzilla category? I vote Smog Monster because there is nothing like that "Save the Planet" tune.

Joe, Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather, and 2001 shows I have bad taste? They're ranked on IMDb's top 100 according to user ratings. Yeah, I have bad taste.

I thought the fantasy genre was a throw-away group, too. Or at least they didn't define it very clearly. Treasure of the Sierra Madre not making the Western list is ridiculous, although The Searchers is a great choice for #1.

Also, Titanic being anywhere near this list makes me sad. And Journey to the Seventh Planet not being #1 in sci-fi makes my heart hurt as well. Where else does a man have to travel into the depths of his soul in Uranus? In what other movie do men have to battle the one-eyed monster in Uranus? Exactly.

One more thing - what about horror? It's such a great genre that has it's share of cinematic innovation and genius.

How is Casino not on the Gangster List?!?!? I believe this is a major omission because you don't get much more gangster than DeNiro & Pesci (as seen by the inclusion of Goodfellas) & a strung out Sharon Stone-plus Vega$ in her prime "RatPack"ing type days before she got all gussy-ed up by mercantilism & advertising. So that sucks HARD!!!

I don't agree with thier Westerns of Fantasy picks. Also, for me, Lion King is the best ever animation. Overall though, AFI seem to have done a good job.

I hate 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'd rather see that movie about that comedian who goes to mars with an ape and farts in his suit all the time be number one. Damn.
