  • Sally Hawkins winning Best Actress made the rest of the month for me. I correctly predicted almost every award except for Best Actress(Drama) and Best Supporting Actress Kate Winslet winning both was a HELL of a surprise, I thought it they were going to end up as Anne Hathaway (Although KST was far superior to all the other nominees) and Marisa Tomei.

Oh, and I can't believe Happy-Go-Lucky lost to Vicky Cristina Barcelona, it was robbed.
  • Average Joe
I'm probably going to have some flame responses about this, but what's the big deal about Slumdog Millionaire, to the general public I mean. Most people haven't even heard of it and especially not any of the attached names. Hopefully the Academy will remember that their ratings fail when the people don't know of or care about the nominees and winners.
  • Mr C
It won on merit. It was the best film of last year. People should be happy when awards are given on merit.

And on the Oscar ratings thing- My bet is, Dark Knight will get a Best Pic nom , to keep interest levels high.

On the Globes: Delighted Colin Farrell won, was really surprised. Bit disappointed Rourke beat Penn; Hopefully Penn gets the upper edge in the Oscars.
  • I agree that films should win on merit, though I would disagree that Slumdog Millionaire is the best film of the year. It was good and entertaining, but I didn't think it was either all that special or all that new, other than its setting.
  • I knew Slumdog would win..
  • CaptainReg0981
We all knew Slumdog will win. I'm so happy for Kate Winslet and WTF with all of the teeny boppers at the Golden Globes? With the exception of cutie Hayden P. who was doing all the work (you dumb pre-madona HSM freak!). And the suprise for the night was Mickey Rouke won an award also calling Robert Downey Jr on stage to do the speech? Is there a hint that Robert and Mickey are on for Iron Man 2? Nah just a coincedence. Congrats to Heath (looking up the ceiling), you deserved it.
  • I am so proud and happy that Slumdog won... it's a real victory for Indians!!! whooo hooooo

yeah I know it's written, directed, and produced by the Brits, but still, I am thrilled a movie set in India, about Indians, have won Best Picture.
  • Aleric
I have to agree with Robert, they gave it the best film based on poltical correctness.
  • 30 Rock won everything again as I knew it would/should.
  • Remember who everyone thanked..... Hollywood Foreign Press. Every year people say WTF because it's a movie they never heard of or saw. I am surprised at how the Brit's took everything.

I love Kate Winslet but was pulling for Meryl Streep. And I knew Mickey Rourke would get it. Sean has won before and can be a stick in the mud. With Mickey getting buzz signing on to top projects. He will be a dark horse for the SAG's and Oscars.

I have some friends who are old SAG voters and was surprised at Slumdog pulling 4 awards. They felt Button was cheated.

I was so happy for Tina Fey. A lot of people blame her for their lost (republicans) of the election. And she received some not so friendly email. Funny how some of us view our nations standing to our citizens, allies and the world.
